Reset your boiler
First of all try to reset your boiler. All boilers vary however there is usually a reset button or you might need to twist the on/off selector to a reset position. With some boilers turning the mains supply on and off can reset the boiler.
If the boiler still doesn't function here are some of the basic checks which can be made.
Is there an electrical supply to your boiler?
If there are usually lights which light up on the front of your boiler and they are not lit this could be an indication the electrical supply has been in some way stopped.
Check the main consumer unit (fuse box) and look to see if any of the breakers have tripped or if any of the fuse wire has blown.
Try resetting the fuse or replacing the fuse wire and see if the boiler is now functioning. If the fuse trips again or fuse wire blows again call Viva Gas.
It might be that the main fuses are fine, in this case it might be the fuse in the fuse spur located near the boiler. Although it is recommended that all boilers have a fused spur located near to them they don't all have one. If you can locate a fuse spur near the boiler and you know it is connected to the boiler try changing the fuse in it. (Unless otherwise stated within the boiler manufacturers instructions a 3amp fuse should be installed).
If when the fuse is changed there is still no power to the boiler please call Viva Gas
For pressurised systems - Check the water pressure in the central heating system.
In most cases you'll find a mechanical water pressure gauge on the front of your boiler, this will display the water pressure in your heating system.
If the water pressure has dropped to zero the boiler will automatically lock out and will not re-set until the water pressure is refilled to a sufficient level.
Before adding more water pressure to your central heating system have a check (as far as possible) to see if you can see any wet areas around your house where the central heating water has leaked out of the system.
Look for any wet patches on carpets, ceilings, and walls. If you see any wet areas within your home they are a sign of a leaking pipe or fittings and this must be fixed before adding more water pressure back into the system. If this is beyond your level of competency call Viva Gas and book an appointment today.
Our web pages on hints and tips will be added to over the coming weeks, months and years. Although we do our best to give as much information as possible this is by no means an exhaustive place for information. If you are unsure feel free to call Viva Gas and book an appointment and we shall be more than happy to resolve your problems.
